"Integrity and Honesty"
"Integrity and honesty" were the keywords and tools Henry Mathusek, Jr. established the Mathusek Company with. His early vision led from a small school supply operation to the Northeast's premier sports floor installation company. Five brothers now run the legacy their father left them and they continue to use his motto of integrity and honesty.

Started 1952
Henry started the business in 1952 employing only himself and carpenters as needed. He was a manufacturer’s representative for chalk and tackboards when Leon Urbane invented the clip system for wood gym floors. Seeing the need for installers, Henry determined to learn all he could and become their distributor. From those beginnings, Mathusek, Incorporated was born. From the humble beginnings of Urbane’s "Lox-it" system, in 1965 Henry signed on with Horner Flooring Company, the oldest name in maple hardwood floors. Our relationship with Horner continues to this day and we take pride in their continued superior wood flooring products.

One by one, Henry’s sons moved into the business as permanent employees. All five had grown up in the business and all had worked and helped their father through those early years of struggle. Jeff and Fred started full time in the field and were quickly joined by Phillip and Robert. They know every aspect of every product line because they gained the expertise through years of experience. All four are considered master installers. Warren joined the team in 1984 and put his accounting degrees to use. Growth and profitability were the goals.

High Profile Projects
In 1984, after years of installing smaller gymnasiums, the first high profile job came their way... West Point Military Academy. Fred’s game lining stole the show with the intricate Army logo and lettering. West Point was the first major stepping stone and larger wood floors followed which included the Broadway stage for the Marriott Marquis Theatre. The following NCAA basketball teams play their games on our floors: Seton Hall University Pirates, St. John’s University Red Storm, Marist College Red Foxes, Manhattan College Jaspers, Hofstra University Golden Eagles, Stockton State College Ospreys, Ramapo College Roadrunners. We have also done work for the NBA executive offices in NYC, the New Jersey Nets, the Dallas Mavericks Camp-of-the-Woods in Saugerties, New York and also the NBA television program "Inside Stuff." In between these jobs, hundreds of high school, middle school and elementary gymnasiums have gone in plus, the installation of many specialty floors as requested by architects and owners who needed that "special look."

Wood Floors
From day one the installation of wood floors has been the backbone of the company. As a result of the installations we have completed, refinishing, sanding and floor repairs have developed as another service offered to our customers. Mathusek, Incorporated has become a total gym floor service company.

Rubber Floors
In 1989, a new product line was introduced to Mathusek – Mondo Rubber Flooring. Robert installed the first Mondo floor. The quality of the product and the international reputation of Mondo Rubber made their product a natural addition to Mathusek’s sports floor line. Mondo’s first high profile job was the recreation center at Columbia University. The installation included a full gymnasium and elevated indoor running track. Mondo’s experience with Olympic track installations made this job beautiful and highly functional.

Curent Projects
Current projects include the Reebok World Headquarters in Canton, Massachusetts, The New York Yankees, and school gymnasiums from Connecticut to Eastern Long Island to Southern New Jersey.

Mathusek, Incorporated has prospered because of Henry’s desire to be honest and always have integrity. Five brothers could not have survived the demands of ownership if these ideals were not firmly rooted.

Mathusek employees and owners look forward to continued growth and everyone feels that bigger steps are yet to come.
